Okotoks invites feedback on accessible playground design

The Town of Okotoks is seeking input on the proposed design for a new accessible and inclusive playground at Howard Park, scheduled for construction later this year.

An interactive design workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Okotoks Operations Centre. Parents, caregivers and residents who have a special interest in accessibility and inclusivity are encouraged to attend to learn more about the project and share their input.

“Community members will have an opportunity to view the Town’s initial playground concept and help shape the final design,” said Rod March, parks manager for the Town of Okotoks. “We’re looking forward to hearing what matters most when it comes to creating spaces that are welcoming for everyone.”

Howard Park is a central and well-used community hub, located adjacent to the Viking Rentals Centre, Foothills Composite High School and a network of paved pathways that connect to the regional trail system. The park currently features a ball diamond, an existing playground and multiple sports fields. A skatepark is expected to open in late 2025.

The addition of an accessible and inclusive playground will further enhance Howard Park’s role as a gathering place for all residents, creating a safe space where children of all abilities can play, connect and thrive.
