Breaking Barriers: The Power of Coming Together

Writer: Leah IsonLeah Ison

Change doesn’t happen overnight—it’s built when communities come together with a shared vision. In Alberta, we’re working toward a future where accessibility is no longer optional but essential. Barriers, whether physical or systemic, affect us all.

But here’s the truth: Together, we have the power to break those barriers. By championing for accessibility, we create a more inclusive province where everyone can thrive—whether it’s making public spaces more accessible, ensuring equal opportunities, or changing policies that open doors for all Albertans.

It starts with raising our voices, supporting one another, and demanding change. Every small action adds up. Every conversation matters. And every one of us has a role to play in building a barrier-free future.

Let’s keep pushing for progress, together.

The Alberta Ability Network gratefully acknowledges that what we call Alberta, is the traditional and ancestral territories and gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our vibrant communities. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation, and gratitude to the many First Nations, Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta, and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations.
