The Problem
Alberta is one of the last provinces in Canada that DOES NOT have an Accessibility Act.
Accessibility legislation, in contrast to human rights legislation, require applicable organizations to comply with accessibility standards: these standards are designed by committees that include people with disabilities. When organizations improve accessibility, people with disabilities have greater opportunities to become involved in their communities, find meaningful employment, consume goods and services, use public transportation and be able to physically access public spaces and businesses.
The Solution
The Government of Alberta must pass Accessibility Legislation to make the province more accessible and improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. Barrier-Free AB (BFA) is leading efforts to make an Accessibility Act a reality.
